INCOME REDUCED BY £10,000
Dairy Factories In Winton District OUTPUT AFFECTED BY DRY WEATHER THREE HAVE ALREADY CLOSED SEASON A reduction of more than £lO,OOO in the total income of the six dairy factories in the Winton district is estimated for this season compared with last. This has been caused by a big reduction in the output as a result of the abnormally dry weather in Southland.
The Boggy Burn, Browns and Hokonui factories have already ended the season with an aggregate decrease of 91 tons of cheese compared with the output for the previous season. The three factories still manufacturing— Awarua, Lochiel and Northope—show an aggregate decrease so far of 104 tons.
The total number of suppliers to these six factories is 14 fewer than it was last year, but this is considered to be only a small factor in the decreased output. The total decrease to yesterday of 195 tons for the six factories represents, on the ’ average district yield and the average advance payment, a decrease of about £10,187 in the total income of the suppliers of those factories.
