DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB SHOOTING FOR ONE-DAY TROPHY Members of the Mataura Defence Rifle Club continuing the championship shoot, fired over the 500 and 600 yards ranges for a one-day trophy. A blazing sun shining on the shooters and heat radiation from the barrels causing a mirage between the sights made shooting difficult. In the circumstances, some very creditable scores were registered. A. Falconer, with 49 off the rifle, was top scorer, his last four shots being bulls. W. Webb, with 48 and a six-bull finish, was next and then came A. O. Ross, with 48 and a three-bull finish. With the automatic handicapping system in operation, all the members are running close for the aggregate trophy. The detailed scores are as follows:—
