FRENCH ROYALISTS’ VIEW OF FASCISM
ACTION FRANCAISE BRAND DENOUNCED PARIS, December 5. The Comte de Paris, son of the Due de Guise, Pretender to the French Throne, has issued a manifesto on behalf of the Royalists denouncing the Action Francaise brand of Fascism. This movement he described as “rational royalism in theory but leading to a despotic Caesarism like that in certain foreign countries, which is inconsistent with the French national temperament.” PRETENDER OPPOSED BY BELGIAN RADICALS SIDELIGHT ON CAGOULARDS PLOT LONDON, November 26. The revelations made during the investigation of the Cagoulards’ armed plot to overthrow the French Government have caused the Belgian Left Wingers to demand the expulsion from Belgium of the Due de Guise and the Comte de Paris, says a special correspondent of The Daily Sketch at Brussels, who interviewed the Due and the Comte at their home in Brussels. “Of the events in France with which our names have been connected I can sav nothing,” said the Comte. “It is our most fervent desire to observe a standard of conduct which not only excludes all political activities affecting Belgium, but avoids any suspicion of a desire to create any impression that we have forgotten the first law of hospitality.” Che Due and Comte hold a court in the atmosphere of old Versailles, receiving deputations from French Royalists and members of European families. The Fleur-de-Lys decorates the front gates of their home.
