“GUNPOWDER PLOT” IN BRAZIL

ARREST OF NOTORIOUS TERRORIST (Received December 7, 8.50 p.m.) RIO DE JANEIRO, December 6. A plot to blow up battleships, the police headquarters and office buildings is alleged to have been disclosed after the arrest of a notorious leftist terrorist. The police seized bombs which they described as containing enough T.N.T. to blow up a large city. The police also closed up .the offices of the fascist Integralistas in accordance with a decree issued last Friday, and seized large quantities of arms, ammunition and gas bombs.

Last Friday the President of Brazil (Dr Getullo Vargas) decreed the dissolution of all political parties, including the fascist Intergralistas. His decree further strengthened the dictatorship and eliminated the remnants of popular suffrage.
