CANDIDATES FOR TEACHING
SHORTAGE EXPERIENCED AT TRAINING COLLEGES (Special to The Times) AUCKLAND, December 5. With a definite shortage of candidates for teachers’ training colleges, there are ample opportunities for young men and women possessed of the requisite qualifications. It is understood that there is a shortage of at least 200 throughout the Dominion and while there are sufficient candidates offering where only a small number is required, there is a great shortage in large centres. Applications are invited by the Auckland Education Board for candidates who will have reached the age of 17 years not later than February 28, 1938. . Previously, candidates were required to be 17 by December 31, 1937, but it is hoped that by extending the time some young students who would otherwise be debarred from entering training college next year will now be eligible. Representatives of the Auckland Education Board have been touring parts of the province, and, while some students of a very fine type were interviewed in some provincial centres, opportunities exist for more candidates.
