The trial of Kathleen Waitoa, charged with doing actual bodily harm to Albert Edward Davey, at Jerusalem, Wanganui river, on July 28 was begun today. . Davey said he was a married man with two grown-up sons. He had been living apart from his wife for 23 months. In April he became acquainted with accused and took her home as housekeeper. Later accused became jealous and frequent quarrels took place. She displayed an uncontrollable temper. Witness described a number of scenes in which accused struck him. Accused, on July 28, picked up a knife and drove it into witness’s chest. Before the blow was struck accused said: “If I cannot have you no other woman will.” Accused then pulled out the knife and bound up the wound and sent for a doctor and did all she could for him. Later witness received a letter from accused from Wanganui prison couched in friendly terms. The jury, after fifteen minutes retirement, found Waitoa guilty of assault and causing actual bodily harm under provocation.
