GEORGE WALLACE REVUE
Appeal To Popular Taste ENTIRELY NEW COMPANY George Wallace is firmly entrenched as a favourite with Invercargill revue audiences and in the latest production in which he is featured he succeeds admirably in maintaining the support of the public. At the Civic Theatre for the rest of this week may be seen one of the brightest revue companies which have visited Invercargill for a number of years presenting a series of racy programmes calculated to keep the audience in a constant state of the keenest delight. George Wallace heads the company and in his inimitably droll fashion burlesques his way through a tremendous number of witty and clever sketches. The company is an unusually strong one, with several excellent singers, comedians, specialty dancers and a capable ballet and chorus.
The company is an entirely new one organized by the popular stars, Miss Queenie Paul and Mr Mike Connors, who take prominent parts in the production in musical numbers and sketches. Miss Minnie Love scores a brilliant success in a series of impersonations of famous performers. Popular tenor numbers of a high order are contributed by Mr Leo Trenette, whose delightful singing had earned him a great deal of applause. In the dancing field, the company has a great deal to offer. Stylist tap-dancing is provided by Rex and Bessie, and Delaney and Butt introduce a novel note with a Tyrolean dance which is particularly graceful. George Wallace shows that his extraordinary versatility includes tap-dancing of unusual excellence. A striking performance is given by a trio of adagio dancers, the Marcella trio, which present controlled acrobatic movements of extreme brilliance. A silhouette number by the Russell Brothers is an outstanding item. The first performance will be given tonight of a new revue, “Laugh Town Laugh.
