Kennington RETURNED SOLDIERS
A further meeting of returned soldiers was held when Mr E. Hargest presided over a good attendance of members. The Rev. Mr Thomson was present and said that he had cancelled two church services on Sunray, April 25. The congregations of their church had been asked to attend a combined Anzac Day service to be held in the hall on Sunday afternoon at 2.30 p.m. The meeting carried this proposal, also that the collection from the service go to the church. It was reported’ that Mr W. Grieve had consented to be the official speaker for the occasion.’ It was decided to call a general meeting of all returned men of the surrounding district from after Anzac Day to consider forming a sub-association. The meeting would take the form of a social evening and would be addressed by the president and secretary of the R.S.A., who would outline the benefits to be derived from the forming of a sub-association of the returned men of the district. A sub-committee, consisting of the chairman, secretary and Mr J. Waddel. was formed to circularize al Returned men so that the social evening would be an assured success. EUCHRE AND DANCE Teh monthly euchre and dance social held by the ladies’ lodge was again well patronized and it was decided in view of the popularity of the socials to hold them fortnightly. Prizes for the euchre were won by Mrs S. J. Henderson and Mr J. Henderson with consolation prizes to Mr M. Fairbairn. Miss T. Hargest and Miss Burgess controlled the card tables while Mr S. Cloughley was master of ceremonies for the dance for which music was supplied by Mrs H. Mills (piano) and Mr B. Dawson (accordion).
