TRAGEDY ON LAKE ERIE

CANADIAN SHIP CAPSIZES. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.10 p.m.) Cleveland (Ohio), October 18. Eighteen members of the crew and one woman passenger perished last night when a Canadian ship rolled over in a 50-mile an hour gale which swept Lake Erie, 14 miles north-west of Cleveland. Many of the sailors clung desperately to two capsized lifeboats for hours before slipping off and drowning. Two freighters bound for Lake Erie ports this morning rescued seven men, half dead from exposure.
