OBITUARY MR J. S. GARDNER. The death has occurred of Mr John Spencer Gardner, of Kennington. For about 20 years he was employed seasonally at the Ocean Beach freezing works. The late Mr Gardner was born in England, and in his earlier years was associated with church choirs in his native town. He never lost his interest in church matters, while he retained his love for music, particularly vocal. Over a number of years he was a regular attender at concerts given by the Invercargill Male Choir and visiting singers. QUEEN CARNIVAL The committee of the Blue Princess held two card evenings. Mrs F. H. Pearce entertained supporters at flag 500 and Mrs E. Parsons held a bridge drive. The winners of the 500 were Miss G. Urwin and Mr F. Pearce, and the bridge drive was won by Mrs G. Hicks and Mr C. Wavish. A dance and euchre tournament was held in the Athenaeum, the proceeds going towards the funds of the Green Princess. Music was supplied by Mrs S. Harland, Mr I. Rita playing extras. Mr S. Harland was master of ceremonies. The winners of the euchre were Mrs F. Goodall and Mr R. Roderique.
