Otautau Notes
The Otautau Guide Company paid a surprise visit to Mr and Mrs J. Campbell, Lieman street, on Saturday evening in recognition of their services to the movement. Items were given as follow: Songs, Misses M. Gutschlag and D. Baker; mouth organ solo, Miss L. Smith; pianoforte solo, Miss Ireland. Community singing was also enjoyed. Miss A. Chilton acted as accompaniste. In asking Mrs Campbell to accept a pair of crystal vases Lieutenant Wesney paid a generous tribute to the assistance she had always given to the company, and the speaker wished Mr and Mrs Campbell success and prosperity in the future. These remarks were supported by Miss Donnan (captain), after which Mrs Campbell responded. Those present were: Mr and Mrs J. Campbell, Misses Donnan (captain) and S. Wesney (lieutenant); Misses A. Chilton, Ballam, Smith, M. Saxelby, D. Baker, J. Saxelby, M. Kennedy, Ireland, Maxwell, Sutherland, Gutschlag, Angus, Corkhill and Rowe. A welcome home was given to Mr and Mrs L. Black in the Scotts Gap hall, when there was a large attendance. Dancing was held to music supplied by Mr A. Philpot, while extras were played by Messrs D. Hawthorne and E. King. Mr D. Hawthorne was master of ceremonies. Mr A. S. James accorded the guests of the evening a hearty welcome and wished them success in the future. Mr Black replied. Those present were: Mr and Mrs L. Hawthorne, Sheddan (2), McCully < 2 )> ford (2), P. Muir, Dickson (2), Whittington, J. Cairns, R. Whitehead, S. Cook, J. Keen, J. Flowers, Beck (3), Smith. R. Kennedy, A.
