A CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS.

To the Editor.

Sir, —In reply to Mr Lopdell’s letter, which appeared in Tuesday’s Times, I have to admit that I was not myself present at Mr Veitch’s meeting. However, many other local gentlemen were, and after again discussing the matter with them, I can only suppose that Mr Lopdell’s memory of the occasion is at fault.

It has been definitely stated to me by various reliable gentlemen who were present, that Mr Lopdell in his introductory remarks, did mention the present Government and distinctly conveyed the impression that he was a supporter of the Democrat Party. In view of this, his subsequent remarks at Mr Hargest’s meeting can hardly be called consistent.—l am, etc., DON McKENZIE. Bluff, November 6, 1935.
