FOUND GUILTY
MARRIED WOMAN. UNLAWFUL USE OF INSTRUMENT. After 35 minutes’ retirement the common jury returned a verdict ot guilty at the conclusion of the trial before his Honour Mr Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court yesterday of Jean Cartwright, a married woman, who had pleaded not guilty to a charge of having unlawfully used an instrument for the purpose of procuring a miscarriage. The prisoner, who was defended by Mr J. G. Imlay, was remanded in custody for sentence at 10 o’clock this morning. Nine jurors were stood aside by the Crown and three challenged by the accused before the following common jury was empanelled: William Robert Ronald (foreman), Andrew Henry Smith, Robert McLean Elder, John Hamilton, Edwin George Luzmoor, Harry Holt Royds, George Kidd, John Holloway, Bert Gerald Winders, Cecil Robert Burman, Robert Frank Greenwood and Thomas Trim. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr H. J. Macalister) briefly outlined the allegations upon which the prosecution relied.
After evidence had been given and his Honour had summed up the jury retired at 3 p.m. and returned at 3.35 p.m. with a verdict of guilty.
