BRITISH ARMY

NEW TYPE OF SERVICE RIFLE.

(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.20 p.m.) London, August 10. The Despatch says that after tests of five British and two foreign rifles, .the War Office adopted a new service rifle which is of British design. Gas operated and self-loading, it fires 50 aimed shots a minute. It is virtually a light machine-gun. The issue to the British forces will cost £3,000,000, necessitating a Supplementary Estimate.
