MR J. HARGEST

OPERATION PERFORMED. CONDITION IMPROVED. (Special to the Times.) Wellington, June 4. The throat trouble that forced Mr J. Hargest into hospital in Wellington during last session recurred last week when he was here for the conference of the National Political Federation and he was forced to undergo an operation on Friday. The trouble arose out of an old war wound in the nose and consequently the operation was performed by doctors of the Pensions Department. Mr Hargest has also had considerable trouble with his back and it is considered this is due to the effects of concussion from a shell that struck him down on the last day the New Zealand troops were engaged in France. The doctor? hope to do something for this trouble while he ii in ■'hospital. The present treatment should make him fit for the speaking campaign to be carried out next month and for the general election later in the year. He will contest Invercargill as a Nationalist. He was not allowed to see visitors during the week-end, but is much better to-day.
