SYDNEY ROYAL SHOW
WOMAN WINS WATER JUMP. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright). (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) Sydney, April 19. A feature of the Royal Show yesterday was the wonderful achievement of a New Zealander, Miss Vera Macmillan, in winning the water jump, as it was the first time in the history of the show that a woman has won an event of this nature. It was recalled that Miss Macmillan was seriously injured at the 1925 show when she crashed at one of the hurdles and fractured her spine. She lay prostrate in hospital for nearly a year. Miss Macmillan rode her own gelding, Flying Scout, and registered a jump of 28 feet 9 inches. 'At a sale of Clydesdale stallions at the show yesterday, Mr J. M. Smith, of North Otago, New Zealand, obtained 95 guineas for Smithfield Slump. He also obtained at the sales of Clydesdale mares 140 guineas for Lady’s Hope and 120 guineas for Springbank Ella Craig. Mr W. C. Spray, of Timaru, obtained 125 guineas for the stallion Hillfield Baron.
