Mrs Orme, of Wellington, is visiting her sister, Mrs J. Wohlers, South Riverton.

Mrs Webb, of Aparima, is the guest of Mr and Mrs W. Armstrong, Palmerston street.

Mrs J. Leslie left on Saturday on an extended holiday to be spent in Milton and Dunedin.

Miss I. Armstrong is visiting Mr and Mrs T. Armstrong, Orepuki.

Mrs H.. Blair-Stewart and Mr C Stewart have returned from Canterbury district. Mrs and Misses Jones (2), of Auckland, spent a few days in Riverton last weeK Before leaving for the Cold Lakes district.

Miss Leslie Stancombe, who has been staying with Mr and Mrs A. D. Mclvor, South Riverton, has returned to Tuatapere.

Miss Borland is holidaying at Stewart Island.

Mr and Mrs Henderson and family, Gore, are at The Rocks. Miss C. Fraser is spending a holidaying at Stewart Island. Miss Pennington, Invercargill, is holidaying at The Rocks.

Mr and Mrs W. Mackenzie, Dunedin, who have been looking up old friends in town and district, left for home on Friday. Miss A. Joyce, of Riverton (recently appointed matron of St. Helen’s Hospital, Dunedin) left by the Maheno for Melbourne, to take a six months’ refresher course in the Women’s Hospital there. She is the first maternitytrained nurse in New Zealand to get that position. After leaving Melbourne she will be the guest of the Sydney Women’s Hospital before returning to New Zealand via Wellington. On leaving Bluff by the Maheno Miss Joyce received many congratulatory telegrams and bouquets. Miss Joyce was trained in the Southland Hospital. A native of Riverton and educated at the local High School her many friends at the seaside town will wish her every success for the future. At Thursday night’s meeting of the local league mention was made of this lady’s advancement in the nursing profession, and the secretary was instructed to write congratulating her on her success.

Mr and Mrs Gee and family, Gore, are holidaying at The Rocks. Mrs Stan. Mitchell, South Riverton, who spent an extended holiday in the north, has returned. Mrs J. H. McKenzie, Lady Barkly, is holidaying at The Rocks. Miss G. Walsh is holidaying at Stewart Island.

Mr and Mrs Barnett and family, Invercargill, have been staying at Aparima Hotel.

Miss Frew, Invercargill, spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs W. Frew, South, Riverton. Mr and Mrs Nuttall and family, Hekeia, have left to take up residence in Ashburton.

Mrs H. F. Drewe and family have returned to Invercargill after several weeks holiday at The Rocks. Mrs J. Cassels has returned from Queenstown. Miss Clare Hunter, who has been spending her holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. S. Hunter, South Riverton, left on Wednesday for Christchurch, where she will resume her studies at the University. Miss M. McKinnon, South Riverton, is spending a holiday with friends at Christchurch.

Mrs T. Bulman, who was present at her son’s marriage, has returned from Canterbury. Misses Wyatt, Invercargill, were the guests of Mr and Mrs J. A. C. Mackenzie, South Riverton, last week. Martin, A. Shaw, Scott Golden Wedding. An interesting and enjoyable afternoon vzas spent at the residence of Mr and Mrs E. J. Stevens “Ferngrove,” I

Longwood on the 11th inst., when sixty guests assembled to celebrate the golden wedding of the couple. Mr T. Middleton (Lora Gorge) presided and read a number of congratulatory letters and telegrams from friends and relations from far and near, all expressing the hope that Mr and Mrs Stevens would long continue to enjoy the best of health. The couple were married at the residence of the late Mr and Mrs Jas. Eveleigh, Riverton, in 1885, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. Jas. Cameron. They were both born in Riverton and have resided in the district all the time. Out of fourteen children twelve are living—eight boys and four girls—viz., Mrs J. Middlemiss (Woodlands), Mrs T. Middleton (Lora Gorge), Mrs T. Henderson (Myross Bush), Mrs Benifield (Wanganui), Messrs E. Stevens (Napier), John (Seacliff), Ronald (Glenorchy), Leslie (Lora Gorge), Albert (Grove Bush), Thomas (Lora Gorge), George (South America) and Victor (Greymouth). There are also forty-seven grand children living, three having passed away. The couple were tb.e recipients of many useful and valuable presents. Mr Stevens, who is 78 years of age, is one of the descendants of the early pioneers of that name, and though quietly living in retirement at his beautiful home at Longwood, still takes an active part in local matters and sport—particularly bowling. A few years back he was a prominent member of the Wallace County Council, Wallace Hospital, Racing Club, Regatta Chib, Horticultural Society and a number of kindred societies. Mrs Stevens also devotes a considerable portion of her time to deserving cases of hardship and is also an enthusiastic gardener.
