The motto for the evening was “Gardens are not made by singing ‘Oh how beautiful’ and sitting in the shade,” while the roll call, “My favourite flower,” received ready response. Prior to the commencement of the evening’s proceedings members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Miss Ivy Gill, a former member of the institute.
Mr A. Brandford, Riverton, was present and gave an interesting and instructive address on “Carnations.”
A competition, bowl of one variety of annuals, resulted in the first award going to Miss Winnie Wilson, with Miss M. Dixon second and third.
Fourteen new members were proposed, making the membership 62. Mrs R. H. Duston traversed the benefits and enjoyment of a glee club and dramatic circle, a weaving circle and a debating club, and entries are now being accepted.
