The Misses Mataura and Mabel MacGibbon, Huron street, East Gore, have returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs O. Miller, who have been the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Peirson, William street, left yesterday for Dunedin.
On Thursday afternoon the lady members of the Summer Golf Club' entertained Miss Z>x><r.e Noake at afternoon tea. On cm-.nlf of the members, Mrs A. E. Boult presented Miss Noake with a beautiful crystal vase and conveyed the good wishes of all for her future. Miss Noake suitably replied. Members present were Mesdames A. E. Boult, J. A. S. Aitken, J. J. Perry, J. A. Sinclair, G. C. Hamilton, F. V. Piper, J. Brown, R. W. McCreath, E. J. Crosbie, A. Wilson, J. Ritchie, F. M. Murray, D. Reid, J. J. Stroud, S. B. Taylor, F. D. Kirby, D. F. Tait, W. F. Young; Misses D. Noake, B. Johnson, N. Paterson, M. Maher, R. Blaikie, E. Johnstone and Aitcheson.
Mr and Mrs F. S. Graham, Albany street, accompanied by Mr and Mrs R. Fisher, Devon street, motored to the Eglinton Valley during the week-end.
Mr and Mrs David Dickie, Washpool, who with their son Norman have been on an extensive trip through the North Island, returned to Gore by Thursday evening’s express. The engagement is announced of Ethel Hawthorne, fifth daughter of Mr and Mrs W. J. Spittle, Waikoikoi, to Cecil, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Wheatley, Westport. Plunket Nurse Hill, who has been on relieving duty in Gore, left on Saturday morning for Timaru. Miss J. McLean, Thornbury, is the guest of Mrs E. Paterson, Albany street.
The engagement is announced of Ruth Anna, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs H. T. Gill, Tainui Road, Dunedin, to Hugh A. McKay, “Thornhill Estate,” Wyndham, fifth son of Mr and Mrs T. M. McKay, “The Braes,” Mataura.
Mrs J. A. S. Aitken, Albany street, was hostess at bridge for Miss Dulcie Noake, on Tuesday evening of last week, when those present were Mesdames F. S. Graham, H. R. Domigan, E. J. Crosbie, S. B. Taylor, J. Ritchie, R. S. Green, W. L. Milne, J. Domigan (Oamaru), W. F. Young, J. Richards, R. Speden and the guest of honour.
Mr and Mrs R. W. McCreath, Mesdames A. T. Pettigrew, V. Gerken and M. Cronin, members of the Gore Croquet Club, journeyed to Dunedin by yesterday afternoon’s express to take part in the Otago croquet tournament which is being held this week. Mrs E. J. Crosbie, Hamilton street, East Gore, was hostess at a very enjoyable bridge party on Friday evening in honour of Miss Dulcie Noake. The drawing room was decorated with bowls of scarlet verbena and carnations. Mrs Crosbie received her guests wearing a frock of pale blue georgette and black satin. On behalf of those present Mrs E. F. Selby presented Miss Noake with a handsome crystal salad bowl and expressed the best wishes of her friends for her future happiness. Miss Noake replied thanking those present for their gift and good wishes. Prizes for the evening’s play were won by Mrs A. Wilson (highest score) and Mrs T Fyfe (concealed number). Those present were: Mesdames R. Speden, J. G. Cruickshank, A. T. Pettigrew, W. L. Milne, G. J. Conolly, D. M. Stewart, E. F. Selby, J. A. S. Aitken, J. J. Stroud, T. Fyfe, J. Richards, A. Wilson, A. E Boult, J. Richie and R. S. Green. WEDDING. BRADBURY—KENNEDY. The wedding of Mary Helen, daughter of Mr and Mrs R. A. Kennedy, Moa Flat, and John Noble, son of Mr J. Bradbury and the late Mrs Bradbury, Mosgiel, took place at St. Andrew’s Church, Gore on Wednesday, January 30. The church was decorated for the occasion with pink and yellow flowers and greenery. The Rev. F. M. Beattie performed the ceremony and Mr Hills-don-Hutton was organist. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory corded taffeta with lace bodice closely fitting the figure and long sleeves with lace insets. The gown was cut on long lines to form a slight train at the back. She wore a handsomely-embroidered tulle veil arranged with a coronet of orange blossoms and carried a shower bouquet of cream and pink roses and foliage. The bride was attended by her two sisters, Jean and Gwen, who wore dainty frocks of pale lemon and pink silk organza respectively. They wore bandeaux of silk and velvet ribbon I flowers and carried shower, bouquets to match their frocks.
Mr Robert Campbell was best man, and the ushers were Messrs A. R. Kennedy and A. Kennedy. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Cosy Lounge where Mr and Mrs Kennedy received the guests assisted by the bridegroom’s sister, Mrs J. Gordon. Mrs Kennedy wore a becoming frock of black floral crepe de chine and a black hat and carried a bouquet of red roses.
Mrs Gordon wore a wine-coloured' matalasse ensemble with hat to match and carried a bouquet composed of yellow roses. 'For travelling the bride wore a suit of deep blue and oyster, with hat and accessories in oyster tonings and carried a black English model coat. Mr and Mrs John N. Bradbury will reside in Mosgiel.
