ESK STREET

INVERCARGILL’S BUSIEST STREET! FIRE STOCKS CAUSE A STIR. The question—which is Invercargill’s busiest street—was settled this morning, Esk street winning easily! From an early hour the street resounded with the rumble of lorries as Ross and Glendining’s. fire stocks were transported to H. and J. Smith’s Social Hall for ticketing. What a busy scene the hall presents! What a variety of goods! The immense warehouse stocks are piled high on tables, and a staff of from 20 to 30 are busily engaged checking and ticketing. It is many years since such a large transaction has been recorded locally, it means a heavy insurance loss, but a wonderful win for the public.— Advt.
