EXTRADITED DEALER

APPEARANCE IN COURT. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 28. Extradited from Australia to answer a charge of obtaining from John Shelley the sum of £235 by false pretences as to the ownership of a motor car, Jack Denton French, aged 32, a motor

dealer, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court and was remanded till February 6. Detective-Sergeant Hall said that French had been arrested on the arrival of the Monowai at Sydney earlier this month and had been brought back by Detective McPhee, arriving here on the Marama this morning. The detective-sergeant asked that the bail be substantial.

Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M., fixed the bail at £250, with a surety of a like amount.

In view of the fact that the accused had been extradited, he refused a request to suppress the name.
