PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH.

WELLINGTON MANAGER INTERVIEWED. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 23. Mr Phillips, manager of the Wellington Plunket Shield Cricket team, on his return from Auckland this morning said the team had had a splendid trip. He paid tribute to the standard of Auckland cricket, and said:—“We are satisfied Auckland has the strongest all-round side in the Dominion to-day, and their failure against Canterbuiy is absolutely unaccountable. Their batting was sound right through, and the bowling was also very solid. Townsend, who was an outstanding bowler in our match, was brilliant in the second innings, when he was helped to some extent by the pitch. M.C.C. v. TRINIDAD. Marylebone in the second innings made 103 (Leyland 59, Sealey five for 26). Trinidad in the second innings have lost six for 86 (Constantine 25, Wyatt four for 42). , ... Rain fell all night and continuing in the morning damaged the wicket. Despite demanding new matting, Marylebone collapsed, Leyland alone playing Sealey’s spinners confidently. Trimdad were left to get 100 in 45 minutes.
