NORTHEND’S SHIELD RINK.

WESNEY BEATS STEANS.

Tire final of the rink competition to find Norihend’s shield rink was played at Northend green last evening between rinks skipped by D. J. Wesney, and A. Steans, and after a keen and closely contested game in which fortunes fluctuated somewhat Wesney s rink was successful by 20 points to 18. The rinks in the final were: McKitterick, McDonald, Scandrett and D. J. Wesney (s), and Randle, Millar, Taggart and Steans (s). Wesney’s rink will now represent Northend in the Shield rink competition to be played next month. In the competition just closed the winning rink had three wins and one Joss. Swift’s rink (McMillan, Morton, Keast and Swift) defeating them in their first game. The rinks skipped by Swift, Taylor and Steans each had two losses and two wins, and the rink skipped by S. Smith (Reid, Shand, Service and Smith) one win and three losses. Northend’s rink which was runnerup to Riverton last year was Reid, Steans, Service and Smith. On that occasion the rink was found by selecting the skip (vote of members), the skip to select the third and skip, and third to select the remaining players. This year the annual meeting decided to find the Shield rink by competition, and five rinks competed.
