INTER-STATE CONTEST. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.30 p.m.) Melbourne, Dec. 7. By winning three of to-day’s six rubbers, Victoria defeated South Australia by 8 rubbers to 7 and South Australia defeated New South Wales by the same margin in the inter-state triangular tennis tournament which ended to-day. In one of the best games of the tournament Crawford and Thompson defeated the Davis Cup pair, Quist and Turnbull, 3—6, B—6, 6 —4. Sound driving won the match, Crawford playing at top form. By defeating Bromwich and Sproule with an heroic effort, Hone _ and Schwartz won for South Australia the match against New South Wales.
