DUKE OF GLOUCESTER

LAST DAYS IN AUSTRALIA. A FAREWELL MESSAGE. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.25 p.m.) Brisbane, December 7. In a speech at the Rotary Club’s luncheon to-day the Duke of Gloucester gave what is regarded as his farewell message to Australia. He said the cordiality of his reception everywhere had exceeded anything he could have expected. Nothing had excited his admiration more than the courage with which Australians had faced, and were facing, the difficult years. The Duke to-day attended functions at the University and at the Showground where the children gave a fine display. He leaves to-night to spend the week-end on the North Coast and embarks for New Zealand on Monday. The Duke dined to-night with members of the Brisbane Club and also attended an ex-servicemen’s concert at the City Hall. He performed the noteworthy task of launching the New Orient liner Orion at Barrow-in-Fur-ness by pressing a button which sent a wireless impulse halfway round the world. Great cheering marked his action.
