SCHOOL PRIZE LISTS.
ST. THOMAS’S BREAK-UP.

On Thursday afternoon last the annual break-up ceremony of the St. Thomas’s School, Winton, was held, when an enjoyable concert programme of choruses, recitations, step-dances, songs and dialogues was given. The Rev. Father O’Neil presided and presented the prizes to the winners. He spoke of the pleasure it gave him to be present at the childrens entertainment and to see such a large gatheiing of parents and friends. He congratulated the children on their successful programme and paid a tribute to the work which was being done by the Sisters of Mercy. He extended his best wishes to all for a happy holiday. The prize list was as follows:— Form 2.—Christian Doctrine, Jack Cavanagh; first place in class, Jack Duffey; second place, Evelyn Stancombe. „ , . Form I.—Christian Doctrine, Molly Forde; first in class, Mary Hamilton. Standard 4.—First in class and best possible attendance, Muriel Cavanagh; Christian Doctrine, Tina Cavanagh; second equal in class, Ola Cahill and Kathleen Wallis. . Standard 3.—First in class, Brian Wallis; Christian Doctrine and second place, Ray Gullick; improvement, Leslie Grimwood. . Standard 2.—Christian Doctrine, Luke Duffey; first in class, Graham Grimwood; second place, Joan Cavanagh. Standard I—Christian Doctrine, Zita Deegan; first in class, Gordon Kilkerr; second place, Bernadette LangPreparatory.—First in class, Mollie Fahey; second place, Marie Conroy. At the conclusion of the prize-giving a sports programme was held. Winton District High School. Attendance miniature shields (donated by Mrs J. P. McWilliam): Eight years’ unbroken attendance, Lorna White; seven years’ unbroken attendance, Douglas Lindsay. Loyal Winton I-odge. A meeting of the jubilee committee of the Loyal Winton Lodge was held on Monday evening last when the balancesheet for the recent celebrations was presented and was considered very satisfactory. The picnic committee also met to decide on the venue of the forthcoming picnic of the lodge. It was decided to hold this outing on Wednesday, January 10, at Colac Bay. The installation of officers for the ensuing six months takes place on Monday evening next when the following will be installed in the respective chairs: N.G. Bro. R. Thornbury, to Grand Master; V.G Sister M. Dixon, to Noble Grand; E.S. Bro. W. White, to Vice Grand; Warden Bro. A. Davis, to Elective Secretary; I.G. Bro. W. Bryce, to Warden. The ceremony will be carried out by I.P.P.G.M. Bro, R. C. Stenhouse. Personal. On the occasion of his forthcoming marriage the suppliers and staff of the Lochiel dairy factory tendered a social and dance to Mr Stewart, the first assistant of the factory, in the Lochiel Hall on Friday evening last. There was a large attendance present and at a suitable interval, Mr J W. Irwin, chairman of directors, made Mr Stewart a presentation of a dinner set on behalf of the suppliers and a suitable present from the staff. Mr Irwin referred to the excellent service that Mr Stewart had given the factory, and on behalf of the suppliers and the staff wished him the best of luck in his married life. The chairman’s remarks were endorsed by Messrs John Frew (manager of the factory) and J. Avon. Mr Stewart suitably replied. Music for the dancing was supplied by Messrs C. Clark, A. Shirley and A. Challis. A pleasant function took place in the Winton Bowling Club’s pavilion on Thursday evening last when members of the club took the opportunity to bid farewell and make a presentation to Mr and Mrs D. E. Downes, who leave shortly to take up residence in Bluff. Mr Downes, who is a vice-president of the club, and Mrs Downes were the recipients of a table gong. The president, Mr J. T. Butler, in making, the presentation, spoke of the enthusiasm with which Mr Downes had taken up the game. He wished Mr and Mrs Downes every happiness in their new home at Bluff. Messrs P. Bradley and M. Driscoll also added their felicitations and Mr Downes suitably replied.
