SOUTH HILLEND SCHOOL

CONCERT AND PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.

A very successful and enjoyable concert was given by the pupils of the South Hillend School on Friday, December 15, in the South Hillend Hall. The performances of the children reflected great credit on themselves and their accompanist, Mrs W. D. Sinclair.

Before the concert concluded with the singing of Christmas carols, the prizes for the year were presented, the dux prize being won bj Joan Langford, and a medal, given by Mr J. Ewan for all round improvement, by James Wilson.

The following were the concert items: Opening chorus; recitation, S. Cox; duet, J. Langford and V. Kean; folk dances; recitation, R. Patterson; rhythmic drill (boys); Dutch dance, J. Langford and V. Kean; song, J. Wilson; recitation, C. Gordon; chorus; recitation, C. Muir; rowing exercises; trio; recitation, R. Moreton; Highland Fling and sword dance. M. Kirkwood; song; recitation, D. Wilson; dialogue; duet, F. Ward and J. Wilson; recitation, F. Heenan; song; pianoforte solo, D. Cox; Nigger minstrel show; solo, A. Langford; recitation, G. Barrett; deportment drill, girls; song; recitation, J. Kirkwood; Christmas carols. Mr W. J. Langford made an efficient chairman and before the concluding item, presented the prizes won as follows:—

Primer Classes: R. Patterson, C. Gordon, R. Moreton, M. Kirkwood, T. Kean, J. Murphy, R. Barrett. Special Prizes: Mr Ewan’s medal for most improved pupil, James Wilson; Mrs Sinclair’s prizes for drill—Best girl: Joan Langford; best boy: James Wilson. Most improved girl: Daisy Wilson. The evening concluded with a very pleasant dance, the music being supplied by Miss N. Crowe (piano) and Mr H. Morton (violin), while Mr T. A. Langford carried out the duties of M.C.
