AUSTRIA AGAIN ATTACKED. COMMUNIST ACTIVITY. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Berlin, August 16. Herr Habicht, in again attacking Austria in a wireless broadcast, said nobody had made a suggestion to raise her from a condition of hunger and beggary, and the League looked on while Austria enjoyed fewer rights than' a Negro tribe. The Nazis would struggle on until victory was attained. The Communists are still desperately combating Hitlerism and are printing and distributing anti-Government pamphlets, despite the vigilance of the secret police. Printing presses l)ave been installed in the unlikeliest places. A modem machine producing thousands of pamphlets daily has been unearthed in a cave in Koeningstein Forest 30 feet underground. The police have arrested 18 leaders of the Communist information service and have interned 33 owners on charges of treason. The Ministry of Economics is now allowing foreign shipping companies to transfer the full amount of passage money paid if it is in foreign currency. It is also considering further measures to safeguard the interests of foreign shipping compatible with the German currency position. GERMAN REFUGEES EXODUS TO FRANCE. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) London, August 16. The Paris correspondent of The Times says that the Metz, Colmar and Strassburg Chambers of Commerce have protested to the Government against the influx of 40,000 German refugees in the Eastern departments. Their competition threatens local traders and floods the labour market. The position is becoming worse daily. REICHSTAG FIRE TRIAL COUNSEL FOR DEFENCE. (United Press Assn. —Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) London, August 16. The Reichstag fire trial defence committee in London states that the only accredited counsel for the defence will be eminent foreign lawyers, including those Englishmen, Sir Stafford Cripps and Mr Neill Lawson.
