SEVERE FIGHTING
FRENCH IN MOROCCO STORMING OF MOUNTAIN CAVES WAR AGAINST BERBERS (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.10 p.m.) London, August 16. Mr Ward Price, a correspondent with the French Army in Morocco, declares that the French are hindered by Berber sharpshooters concealed in mountain caves, the storming of which has resulted in five days’ continuous fighting. The French have now reached the steep hills commanding the lower slopes of Mt. Badon, the formidable last stronghold of the Berbers. An aeroplane reported a concentration of Berbers around the wells. Each tribe lights desperately under a blazing sun to defend its own little tract of barren country. Three thousand five hundred Berbers have surrendered. The men are fierce and the women swarthy, handsome and tattooed. They were placed in a concentration camp.
