SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

SECONDARY SCHOOLS MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) Timaru, May 11. The principal events at the first secondary schools ski championships held in New Zealand commenced to-day on Ball Glacier, Mount Cook. Waitaki won the inter-school competition with Christ’s College second. The Champion of Champions was A. Borrie (McGlashan College), with S. Thompson (Christ’s College) second. Borrie won the New Zealand Secondary Schools Langlauf Championship and Thompson the Downhill Championship. D. Gordon (Waitaki) won the Slalom Championship. There were 32 competitors in each event, conditions being excellent. The results were:—

Slalom Race.—D. Gordon (Waitaki) 1; S. Thompson (Christ’s College) 2, R. Hudson (Waitaki) and A. Borrie (McGlashan) equal, 3. Downhill Championship: S. Thompson (Christ’s College) 1; Tuckey (Waitaki) 2; D. Gordon (Waitaki) 3, E. Walker (Otago) 4. Time, 2min 23sec. Langlauf Championship: A. Borrie (McGlashan College) 1, C. Gilray (McGlashan College) 2, E. Walker (Otago) 3, C. Stewart (McGlashan College) 4. Time, lOmin 50sec.

Inter-Schools: Waitaki 2781 points, 1; Christ’s College 2611- points, 2; McGlashan A 3; Otago High School 4. Individual Championship: Borrie ..(McGlashan) 1; Thompson (Christ's) 2; Gordon (Waitaki) 3.
