BASKETBALL

CENTRAL DISTRICT. WEDNESDAY’S GAMES. (From Our Correspondent.) An overcast sky but nevertheless fine conditions prevailed on Wednesday afternoon in the Central District when the senior and junior competitions of the Central District Basketball SubUnion were continued; At Ryalßush the home team went under to Lochiel by a decisive margin. Lochiel displayed improved form especially the forwards in comparison with their efforts the previous Wednesday, The game was of an even nature throughout, but the visitors were inclined to put more dash into their efforts. The final score was 22 to 9 in favour of Ryal Bush. Mr G. McKenzie was referee. The Kia Ora-Oreti encounter on the latter’s courts was one of the most interesting of Wednesday’s games and a stem contest culminated in last year’s premiers running out the victors by an eight-point margin. Oreti are a decidedly improved team since last year. The final score was 12 to 4 in favour of the Forest Hill team. The performance of Limehills in accounting for Rovers (Winton) by 15 to 11 was a great improvement in comparison with the form of the previous week when they were defeated by Lochiel. Rovers were at a disadvantage as far as size went, but they gave quite a determined display and there was not a great deal between either team. In the junior section Ryal Bush and Limehills had a great struggle, there being practically nothing between either side. The final scores were 5-4 in favour of Ryal Bush. Tlie Hedgehope-Lochiel contest was quite a bright game, resulting in a win for the former team by 11 to 9. Spar Bush, who played prominently in last season’s junior competition, defeated Rovers fairly decisively by 12 to 1. Owing to the school vacation the Browns A v. High School draw was postponed, while Browns B had a bye. <*• Next Week’s Draw. The draw for next Wednesday is as follows: Senior: Kia Ora v. Lochiel at Winton (tennip courts) at 3 p.m. (Mr R. Reid referee). Winton v. Oreti at Winton (school courts) at 2 p.m. (Mr R. Reid referee). Rovers v. Ryal Bush at Winton (tennis courts) at 2 p.m. (Mr G McKenzie referee). Junior: Lochiel v. Ryal Bush at Lochiel at 3 p.m. (referee to be appointed). Hedgehope v. Spar Bush at Hedgehope at 2.15 p.m. (Mr McCulloch referee). Browns A v. Browns B at Browns at 2.30 p.m. (Mr Hayward referee). High School v. Limehills at Winton (school courts) at 3 p.m. (Mr Liddell referee). Rovers a bye.
