AMBULANCE WORK

ST. JOHN NURSING DIVISION. Through the courtesy of Dr Anderson, members of the St. John Nursing Division recently had the privilege of learning something of the wonders of invisible rays which are so valuable in medical science. Now that the new ambulance building is completed, the classes in first aid for ladies will commence on Tuesday, May 9, as advertised in this issue. The work of the St. John Ambulance surely speaks for itself. There are few homes, if any, to which sickness does not come sooner or later, and accidents invariably occur unexpectedly. The value of knowledge of first aid in rendering relief pending the arrival of tho doctor cannot be overestimated. The members of the Nursing Division ask the women of Invercargill to cooperate with them in making the ambulance movement as strong in this city as it is in other towns in the Dominion. The division is most fortunate in securing the services of the divisional surgeon as lecturer this year. Time spent at the first aid classes will be time well spent. Instruction will be given, inter alia, in the first aid treatment of fractures, dislocations, sprains, burns and scalds, haemorrhage, asphyxia and in bandaging. The lady superintendent of the division appeals to all ladies interested to join the class and to benefit by the doctor’s instruction. Enrolment may be made at the rooms, Esk street, on Tuesday, May 9, and on the following Tuesday.
