WOMEN’S DIVISION

GORE FARMERS’ UNION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Gore branch of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the Soldiers’ Club rooms. The president (Mrs D. Dickie) presided over the following members:— Mesdames Cunningham (secretary), Martin, Craigie, McLeod, Pollock, White, McKenzie, Bruce, Byars, Smith, Hugh Smith, Stewart, Derret, Johnston, Bennet, Davidson, Jones, Crombie, Misses E. Dickie, McLeod (3), Sterling and Nurse Allen. The president gave a report of the year’s progress, which staled that throughout the year the following demonstrations had been given at meetings: "Hints on knitting,” by Mesdames R. L. Byars and Morrison; “Dressing of fowls,” by Mrs R. L. McLean; “Hints on biscuit making,” by Mrs J. Matthews; “First Aid,” by Sister Scott (Mataura); “Poultry Rearing,” by Mrs Horrell (Mandeville). At the October meeting Mrs W. Milne gave a splendid talk on her travels through Canada, Great Britain and the Continent. The November meeting was conducted by the young ladies, who gave a very amusing programme. In December the birthday party was held in the Gaiety Hall. This was well attended, and a very enjoyable social afternoon was spent by one and all. Tire branch had several home science boxes, and some were opened at the market room, where there was a good attendance to view the contents. In regard to members, the branch had 17 new members this year. A hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Dickie for her report was carried. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory financial position. Mrs Stewart gave a short report of the market room, which showed a big increase over last year’s returns. She also spoke of the great benefit it was to all to have a ready market for produce of all kinds. The speaker also moved a vote of thanks to the retiring president, who had done so splendidly throughout her term of office, also to the secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. Cunningham, who was unsparing in her efforts for the good of the division. The following are the office-bearers for the ensuing year; President, Mrs D. Dickie (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames Grant, Bruce and McDowall; secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. Cunningham (re-elected); committee, Mesdames Derrett, Johnston, Byars, McLeod, Henry Smith, Hugh Smith, Crombie, Pollock, Stewart, Bennet and Martin; advisory members, Mesdames Johnston and Stewart; delegates to executive, Mesdames D. Dickie, Pollock and Perret; reporter, Mrs Derret; reporter Country Women’s Paper, Mrs Henry Smith.
