FRUIT EXPORTS
GUARANTEE RENEWED
IMPORTANT EXCEPTION LEVY OF ONE AND A-HALF PENCE (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, January 18. With one important exception, the Government guarantee on fruit exports for the 1932~season has been renewed on almost exactly the same basis, according to an official statement by the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board to-day. This year, however, exporters must contribute one and a-half pence a case for all fruit exported under the guarantee and this levy will be paid into a central fund which will be drawn on by the Government to meet all claims arising out of market and transportation losses. The Government guarantee is renewed on a basis of 11/- a case for extra fancy and fancy grades of the more important varieties. A sum of 7/a case will be guaranteed for extra fancy and fancy grades of the less important varieties and for good grades of ail varieties. The only exception relates to Sturmers on which the guarantee will be 11/- a case only until April 30. On Sturmers sorted for export on and after May 1, the guarantee will be 7/- a case irrespective of the grade. The guarantee will only apply to approved varieties which are shipped from New Zealand on or before May 25. The Government makes the guarantee conditional upon each exporter contributing one and a halfpence a case for all fruit exported under the guarantee. This levy will be paid into a central fund which will be utilized by the Government to meet all claims arising from market and transportation losses. If the fund is not fully utilized, the Government will determine how the balance will be disposed of. If the fund is not sufficient, the Government will bear the rest of the expense that might be involved, in other words where the Government in the past undertook full responsibility of the guarantee, it is now asking the industry to bear a portion.
