THREE LIVES LOST
EXPLOSION ON MOTOR SHIP. DISASTER DURING TRIALS. London, October 15. Berlin reports that three were killed and 20 injured by an explosion on the motor ship Kingsholm during trials off Heligoland. The cylinder covering blew off, tore a metal plate three metres wide from the deck, and hurled it 30 feet seaward. Tugs towed the ship to Cuxhaven. The Kingsholm is one of six new motor ships being constructed for the SwedishAmerica lines in the North Atlantic passenger service. Two were entrusted to German yards, but the owners stipulated that the Danish firm must supply the engines.—Australian Press Association.
