FINE RECORD

GISBORNE’S TOWN CLERK. (Per United Press Association.) Gisborne, June 27. The conclusion of 40 years’ service by Mr R. D. B. Robinson as Town Clerk of Gisborne was marked last evening by a dinner attended by the past Mayors and present and past councillors of Gisborne. The chair was occupied by the Mayor, Mr Coleman.

In the course of speech-making it was mentioned that Mr Robinson held a unique record in that he was the youngest Town Clerk ever appointed in the Dominion, being promoted from office boy to Town Clerk while yet in his ’teens and he had a greater number of years’ service as Town Clerk to his credit than any other in New Zealand. A reminiscent note was struck by past Mayors and councillors who traced the progress and advancement of the borough since its inception in 1887. Mr Robinson was presented with an inscribed gold pendant to mark the completion of 40 years’ service and a handsome clock from past Mayors.
