CASE DISMISSED

CHARGE OF ASSAULT. MAN ACTS IN SELF-DEFENCE. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, June 27. A case in which Henry Edward Crandle, a schoolmaster, aged 53, of Makara, was charged with assaulting Lulu Gestro, of Makara, an Italian, so as to cause him actual bodily harm concluded to-day when the Magistrate held that Crandle had struck Gestro in self-defence and dismissed the case.

The evidence disclosed the fact that Gestro bore a grudge against Crandle and was drunk on the day and followed Crandle and accosted him on a lonely dark road. Crandle to protect himself from Gestro used two sticks, one in each hand.
