EIGHT HOUR TREATY
REVISION PROPOSAL DEFEATED. Geneva, May 29. At a meeting of the Executive of the International Labour Office, Mr Humbert Wolfe presented the British Government’s demand for a revision of the Washington Eight Hour Convention. The Government in nowise desired to modify the essential principles, but uniformity was impossible without revision. The representatives of Belgium, Poland and France opposed the proposition. Miss Margaret Bondfield expressed the opinion that the proposal humiliated British workers who desired ratification. The proposal was defeated by 12 votes to 11. The majority consisted of six workers and six Government delegates.— Australian Press Association.
