MEETING OF CREDITORS
SAWMILL HAND’S FAILURE. The meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of Stanley Ernest Hibbs, of Otautau, sawmill hand, called for yesterday afternoon, lapsed for want of a quorum, only one creditor putting in an appearance. Mr. W. G. Tait appeared on behalf of bankrupt. Bankrupt’s statement revealed debts owing to unsecured creditors amounting to £ll2 3/6 and his assets were nil. Bankrupt in his sworn statement said he was a sawmill hand at Otautau. Up till April 1924 he was working at a mill at Scott’s Gap. He then owed an account amounting to £l5 2/2. He was promised employment at Mabel Bush, but only got three weeks’ work and was unemployed for about six months with the exception of six weeks’ work at Pukerau. He secured work at Waikiwi for three months earning £2 15/- per week. While at Mabel Bush he got into considerable debt. From that on he could get part time employment only and up till the end of 1926 he was burdened with illnesses in the family. Since November 1926 he had been at Otautau employed by a company of sawmillers. His average earnings would not exceed £2 10/per week. He had a wife and three children to keep. He had been getting deeper into debt ever since he went to Mabel Bush in 1924. As he was only part time employed at present and scarcely earning enough to keep hie house he had no offer to make. Examined by the Official Assignee (Mr. J. M. Adam) bankrupt stated that he could make no offer whatever to his creditors. The meeting was adjourned.
