REVS. TOCKER AND CARLISLE.

To the Editor. Sir, —If “The Prodigal” has visions of becoming a newspaper correspondent he must learn that silly ridicule in controversial matters (especially religious subjects) is simply rot. Rev. Tocker has commended “The King of Kings,” Rev. Carlisle has condemned it on the simple ground that a picture actor’s portrayal of the Lord Jesus Christ wholly for worldly entertainment is opposed to Christian conscience and principles. No doubt both are sincere. If the Prodigal desires to support Mr Tocker let him show that on religious grounds the picture is desirable, leaving out the entertainment side. Mr Carlisle was preaching. Noah preached for more than a hundred years and only the beasts came to him, but the flood happened. Is not the time approaching when people will again be as they were in the days of Noah?—l am, etc., “X.” Invercargill, May 29, 1928.
