VALEDICTORY
FUNCTION AT GLENCOE. (From Our Correspondent.) A very pleasant function took place on Friday. May 11, in Mr D. Macdonald's barn the occasion being a farewell social presentation to Miss C. Hamilton, who has been teaching in the local school for over two years, now transferred to school in the Waimate district. The residents of the local district were largely represerted, visitors being present from Invercargill, Waitane, Gore, Waimumu, Te Tip ia, Charlton, Hedgehope, Tussock Creek, Grove Bush, Dunsdale and Browns. The evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Messrs Patton and Birss. Mr J. Sand?rson making an efficient M.C. Miss G. Low contributed two songs. At a suitable interval during the proceedings a dainty supper was provided by the ladies, immediately after Mr A. McKay, chairman of the school committee, made the presentation of a case of stainless cutlery and in a short speech making reference to the sterling qualities of Miss Hamilton as a school teacher. Messrs Birss, A. Macdonald and J. Mackintosh endorsed the previous speaker’s remarks. The company then sang “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” The guest in a neat speech thanked all those present for the gift and kind remarks which she very much appreciated. Later Mr A. McKay expressed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs D. Macdonald for the free use of the house and barn and also to those who supplied the music. Dancing was indulged in till the early hours of the morning when a most enjoyable time came to an end by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
