RIVERTON COURT
MONTHLY SITTING. (From Our Correspondent.) The usual monthly sitting of the Riverton Court on Monday was presided over by Mr G. Cruickshank, S.M. and Warden. POLICE COURT. A first offender for drunkenness, who pleaded guilty, was convicted and discharged. C. Horsham, Borough Inspector, proceeded against W. Russell for cycling on the footpath. Defendant, who did not appear, wrote pleading guilty, and was fined 10/without costs. The Health Department proceeded against Fanny Cleghorn, under section 26 of the Health Act. George Kerr, Health Inspector, said defendant had been given every opportunity to carry out the required repairs, but nothing had been done. The work would not entail a heavy expenditure; all that was required was a pipe from the bathroom to carry away the water. Defendant had promised to do this, but on his last visit to the premises he found the nuisance was still existing. K His Worship said defendant had been given every chance to remedy the deftc, but she had neglected to do so. He imposed a fine of £l, with costs 10/-. CIVIL CASES. Judgment by default was given in the following undefended cases:— J. A. Martin v. T. L. and Sylvia Gilson for £75, costs £5 14/-. E. Baker v. S. Woods for £3 6/-, costs 25/6. Spear and Co. (Colac Bay) v. Robert Bates (Scotts Gap) £1 9/4, costs 25/6. Spear and Co. v. Roy McKay (Port Craig) 9/1, costs 10/-. C. J. Butler v. Kenneally, £1 1/-, costs 10/-.
