GIRL GUIDES
RALLY AT RUGBY PARK. Although occasional light showers detracted somewhat from the pleasure of the day, a successful Girl Guide rally was held at Rugby Park on Saturday. No fewer than eight troops competed in the annual competition for the Efficiency Cup presented by Mr Galloway, these being Southland Girls’ High School, Winton, St. Aidan’s, Bluff, Gore, St. John’s, Georgetown and Central. The competition commenced at ten o’clock when the various troops gave their displays separately, following a programme based on the work carried out during the year. The Girl Guides are to be congratulated on the high standard of efficiency they have attained, it being a difficult matter to select the winning troop. Winton, however, secured the coveted trophy, while High School, who gained the cup last year, came second-and Bluff third, St. Aidan’s being a close runner-up. An exceptionally fine display was given by the combined troops in the march past which followed at the conclusion of the competition. As each troop marched past the salute was taken by the Provincial Commissioner, Mrs J. G. Macdonald, Divisional Commissioner, Mrs McCaw, and the following commissioners: Mrs Jordan (Riverton), Mrs Smith-Nelson (Winton) and Miss Aitken (Gore). The Guides were then drawn up and Mrs C. de R. Andrews presented the cup to the winning team, the troop then being dismissed.
