CONCILIATION COUNCIL

LINESMEN’S DEMANDS. COMPLETE AGREEMENT REACHED. A Conciliation Council meeting was held in the Courthouse to-day to deal with the demands made by the union in respect of the working conditions and wages of linesmen and linesmen’s assistants. Mr W. H. Hagger, Conciliation Commissioner, presided. Messrs A. C. Carman, L. B. Hutton and G. R. Cooper acted as assessors on behalf of the employers and Messrs W. J. Thomas, A. Butson and T. Springfield on behalf of the employees. A complete agreement was reached largely in terms of the present electrical workers’ award, wages being fixed as follows:—Linesmen 2/2 per hour and linesmen’s assistants at 1/llJper hour. The award comes into operation on the 11th inst and continues in operation for a period of two years. Scope of award, Southland provincial district.
