WELLINGTON CITY

SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION. (Per United Press Association.) Wellington, April 4. The Wellington City Council’s finances according to a statement by the Mayor, Mr Norwood, show a gross surplus for the year just closed amounting to £38,219. This was made possible by the balance brought forward from last year of £13,466 and a sum of £20,000 borrowed from the Electric Lighting Department for general purposes in 1925. With these amounts accounted for the nett surplus for 1926-27 was £4,753, which Mr Norwood considered good in view of the many varied calls upon the council. The Trading Departments’ figures are not yet available but each department is in a sound financial position.
