NO FAIR TEST

THE HOLYPORT MATCH FALCON’S SPORTING COMMENT THE OTHER SIDE OF ENGLISH CRICKET. (By Tdegraoh.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, April 30. Sportsmanlike comment, bearing out the general opinion on the Holyport match, was made by Falcon, who said, “Make no mistake, the Australians at Holyport are not the same Australians who, will face the .test teams. They will then be the same grim fighters the Australians always are. It is absurd to judge their test play upon Holyport. The wicket was one of the worst possible. lam sure none of the Australians ever played in such conditions. It was just a pleasant match under old-fashioned country conditions with a team of thoroughly good fellows and good sportsmen who played the game with zest and keenness. The idea was to show the Australians that there was another kind of English cricket than that habitually seen in tests and between counties. Ninety per cent, of the matches in England are played ‘round the corner, so to speak, on pleasant meadows and village greens without the grim keenness displayed by first-class cricketers.” —A. & N.Z. LEICESTER MATCH PUT OFF. HEAVY RAIN EXPERIENCED. (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) London, May 1. There was no play in the Leicester match on Saturday. An overnight drizzle developed into a heavy fall in the morning, which continued till noon, by which time the ground was sodden. After an inspection at 3.30 it was decided that the pitch was unfit for play.— A. and N.Z.
