SPAIN CELEBRATES

LOYALTY TO THE KING. REMARKABLE DEMONSTRATIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) MADRID, January 25. The recent crescendo of country-wide manifestations of loyalty to King Alfonso culminated in remarkable demonstrations which were dubbed “Alfonso’s Day.’’ A huge procession, headed by parliamentarians, provincial councillors, and mayors from all parts of the country marched with bands playing and banners waving to the palace, where, on the balcony, were King Alfonso, the members of the Royal family and the Directory. There they remained for several hours, despite the intense cold, to watch the march past, The King earlier received shoals of telegrams of congratulation. Crowds beseiged the palace to sign albums in connection with the celebrations. A Royal amnesty was granted to all soldiers, sailors, and civilians convicted of light offences. Generals Berenguer and Sarvia, who were arrested in October, have been released.
