MIGRATION SCHEME
BRITISH GOVERNMENTS FINANCIAL OFFER. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) ADELAIDE, January 26. The Minister of Migration (Senator Wilson) stated that according to an agr&3ment between the Commonwealth Government and Great Britain, £20,000,000 will be lent to the States so that developmental work may go hand in hand with the influx of British migrants. The British Government had agreed to pay 50 per cent of the interest on the loan for five years, and 33 1-3 per cent for a further five years. The Federal Government will also pay a portion of the interest, malting the money available to States at about 1 per cent. It is proposed that the States should undertake to absorb 10,000 migrants for each £750,000 of loan money. The State Premiers will meet shortly to discuss the matter.
