SERIOUS CHARGES
SEQUEL TO MOTOR ACCIDENT. OAMARU, January 21. At the Magistrates Court to-day, Ernest Hesel wood was charged with being drunk while in charge of a motor-car and negligently driving a car so as to cause the death of Robert James Young. Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved defence, and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court on February 4. Arising out of the same case, the licensee of the Georgetown Hotel was charged on three different counts with breaches of the Licensing Act. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate (Mr W. H. Bundle) reserved his decision. Four men who were in the car on the occasion of the fatality, were each fined in sums ranging from £1 to £2 for being found on licensed premises after hours.
