MASTER PRINTERS

ANNUAL MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, February 14. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Master Printers’ Association was held to-day. Mr N. Mcßobie (the retiring President), in the course of his opening address, referred to the question of displaying Dominion printing and lithographic work, etc., at the British Empire Exhibition, expressing the view that it would be a better proposition to make a display at the Dunedin Exhibition next year. On the question of supplies, Mr Mcßobie commented that while the Dominion printers favoured buying these within the Empire, yet printers giving preference to Britishmade goods, found some British traders using cheap Continental papers, the traders there exporting these to the Dominion in competition with manufacturers who were unable to secure low priced foreign stock', and who consequently could not meet this competition. If the British traders were not prepared to give favourable consideration, the Dominion printers could not indulge in sentimental preference. In reference to superannuation, the President announced that a committee had been set up to work with any committee which might be appointed by the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association. A general opinion prevailed that ultimately it must become a Government undertaking. Officers were elected as follows: Mr N. Mcßobie, President; Mr T. Somerville, VicePresident; Council: Messrs W. C. Cargill (South Auckland). A. A. Willis (Wanganui), T. Jones and H. Coull (Wellington), J. Gamble (Christchurch), and H. Harris (Dunedin).
